Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions about becoming a trade plate driver with us, including how the role works, pay, hours, and the application process.

What is the role of a trade plate driver?

To collect, inspect, drive, and deliver cars and vans all over the country.

Using public transport such as buses and trains, costs of which are refunded daily.

Vehicles are inspected using an app called MoDel which can be downloaded to your phone. It is straightforward and full training will be provided.

Being a trade plate driver is not a 9 – 5 role, there will be lots of early mornings depending on where your first delivery is. Almost every evening you will take a vehicle home, this is called a carry over and will need to be delivered between 8am and 9am the following morning. The time you get home will depend on where your last collection is and traffic conditions and will vary on a daily basis. We operate 5 days a week, Monday to Friday.

Occasionally, circumstances may mean it would make more sense for you to stay out overnight. In these situations, we will cover the cost of accommodation and a £15 meal allowance as long as you provide a receipt.

Every driver is required to have and use a dash cam. A good-sized rucksack to carry your trade plates, a waterproof coat for when the weather is inclement. You will find other little bits that will help you as you gain experience.

Drivers are paid for the work they do. For each diesel or petrol vehicle you collect you will get an initial £27.50. Any deliveries over 70 miles you will then accrue 25 pence per mile from mile 71. Drivers have the potential to earn £300 – £700 a week.

There is a £25 a week admin fee (£5 a day for part-time drivers) This covers the cost of processing your pay and expenses and use of the trade plates provided for you. Any expenses you incur are reimbursed every 24 hours.

We have an experienced logistics team who are always on the end of the phone to support you if needed.

You will have the opportunity to travel all over the country driving many different types of cars and vans both new and used. You will see many new places and meet new people. You will get to experience public transport in all areas of the country and enjoy all views on offer.

Once you have completed a full application form, if successful, you will be invited firstly to a short online chat and then if that goes well you will be invited to a training and assessment session. If all goes well then you will be invited to have a day out with one of our mentor drivers to complete a full day’s work and get a feel for it. If both yourself and the mentor are happy you will then be able to start your two-week trial. After passing the two-week trial you will become a fully established member of our driving team.
